Firstly anyone wanting to print using an old lexmark printer should take a look here http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Lexmark_Printers , This covers the vast majority of lexmark's and lists a few that are confirmed as paperweights if you find this to be of no help or are fairly lazy like myself there is this link at the bottom of the HowTo to
http://users.cybercity.dk/~dko12479/
goto to here and you will find some very brief instructions for installing these two RPM's
z700llpddk-2.0-1.i386.rpm, and lexmark-z700-cups-driver-1.1.1-1.i586.rpm

If you follow the instructions which are quite easy even for us newbies First you need to point your browser at http://localhost:631 which opens the CUPS interface which is fairly easy to navigate i would suggest having a browse through it to familarise yourself with it
you just need to add a few details about your printer ie Name ,location then hit continue
if your install went well you should now be able to select z700 from the list of CUPS supported printers. (if you dont see the driver listed close the browser then reopen it this restarts the CUPS dameon )
you will be asked for a username and password iv set mine up using root so im not sure if it will work under a normal user
And that's it, your printer is installed. You can check by entering in the link for the printer and clicking on "Print test page".
at which point your printer will print out the cups test page just remember to save your settings and your away
should you get any funny error msgs i suggest going back to the gentoo forum or even asking the Mods here who are very help (;

just to add you _DO NOT_ need to be root user to use the printer i just used root to add the printer

I must admit this has been a bit of a holy grail for me to get printing under linux but as a foot note it sounds a death knoll for the windows partion

Thanks for the mini Howto for Lexmark printers Wanderinglearner.
It should help those that have that type of printer. If you PM a Mod, I am sure one of them could move this to Tips and Tricks.
