Finally I make my sound card working. But I still have some problems.I write my experience here and hope somebody can help me.
I installed Opensuse 10.2 on my PC. My knowledge to this system is very limited. The mother board is M2NPV-VM. The Sound Card is MCP51 High Definition Audio.
The card code is AD1986A.
Since I installed the system, the sound card never worked. The Alsa driver was alsa-driver-1.0.13. I followed other people's post and installed the new driver alsa-driver-1.0.15rc3, alsa-lib-1.0.15rc3,alsa-utils-1.0.15. When installing, I applied the the patch file "patch_sigmatel.c.patch-1.0.15rc1-simple". The installation process can be found from other post.
Here is what I did next.
1. After installation, I run the script /usr/local/src/alsa-driver-1.0.15rc3/snddevices. It creates the directory under /dev/.
2. Go to /etc/modprobe.d, remove the file "sound" or "sound.YaST2save".
3. Go in YaST->Hardwear->sound and open the configuration window. You can configure your sound card here. Here is the tricky part. When I set the volume, the only fields I have none-zero value areCM, Headphone, Front, and PC Speaker. Other fields must be zero. Especially CD field.
4. Go to "Computer->More Applications -> Sound" to test the sound. I can hear the sound. And I can play CD.

Even though I made my sound work, I hope somebody can help me with my problem.
1. Every time after I restart my PC, my configuration are gone. I have to run the script "snddevices" to create those directories under /dev and go through previous configuration steps again. How can I keep them?
I following another post that copy script snddevices to /etc/init.d, and create a symbolic link in /etc/init.d/rcS.d. When I start my machine, it get worse. The directory are not created. Since then, whenever I open sound volume configure window, the field PCM and PC Speaker field always zero.
Can someone help me?

Thanks

Sometimes if you run the following in a konsole (after first typing "su" to get root permissions) this will save your sound settings:

Sorry. I was wrong. The set up is saved. But I have to re-run snddevices script to re-create the directories in d/dev. How can I let it run when rebooting?

Thanks
