If you install superkaramba with yast, by default it will depend on kde4 packages and several themes, such as liquid weather, crash complaining about Kross components.

Solution: uninstall it if you did install.
Get this: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/...39-12.8.src.rpm

As a root, type:
rpmbuild --rebuild superkaramba-0.39-12.8.src.rpm

you need to install the rpmbuild command itself, plus it will complain about kde3 devel packages so go installing those too

This will create a RPM, normally located in /usr/src/packages/.........
For example for me it was /usr/src/packages/RPMS/i586/superkaramba-0.39-12.8.i586.rpm

Now install normally: cd into the dir where the rpm is and type
rpm -Uvih superkaramba-0.39-12.8.i586.rpm

then run:
SuSEconfig

This way superkaramba depends on the kde3 packages and wont crash.
You can reuse the rpm that has been created in this way. I'm uploading mine, not sure it will work for everyone, it might be tailored on my own system... anyway just in case...

Not sure whats going on here I had a couple of glitches but this does run on a default 10.3 install.

But I add it's taking ages for me to get it started. But its running without doing anything fancy.

10.3 doesn't default to 4 superkaramba even picks it up as 3.5 it's only a few games that are kde4 the card decks and some of the remote desktop bits.

i added all kde source but yet the only superkaramba available is embedded in some kde4 packages: see this
[attachmentid=1817]

before installing the rpm manually the only entry was the kde4 one

Not sure Gonzo I have to admit I tried zypper when that gave me no joy I went of to the one click install, did add another repo guess thats the difference.

I'm taking the new way to heart, its what the new users will be doing.

Zypper didn't even find it for me, with the repos I got.

I think a lot of problems are more experienced users fighting one click install, I'm finding its really working well.

I'm now trying to make compiz-fusion only show the taskbar for the viewport. all with one click install.

I find I try zypper with what I think it should be I know now why it didn't find it for me zypper in superkaramba wouldn't off, but zypper in KDE4-superkaramba would have.

Now my suggestion is for the more experienced of us just like we tell the ex-window users to think differently we have to one click is the way to go.

They've come up with one click install and in my experience its working better than what I use to know. Now I can't actually believe this but I've just added the bookmark as I'm finding its solving more problems than its causing in my case.

easy way:
1) get superkaramba sources from kde-look.org
2) compile
3) enjoy

yes i tried that before the src.rpm, it is the very first thing anyone would do of course.
But it keeps complaining about python libraries and headers, even if i have all python and python devel installed. So it turned out that the src.rpm was by far easier and faster than the source in this case, that python-libraries problem can be surely solved, but did not have the time to do it, the src.rpm was just two lines of command

either use export path or add flags to ./configure pointing to the right direction.
rpm was compiled from sources so this should be pretty easy to do.

anyway, if creating rpm from src.rpm is easier then this is the way to go. Good tip.
Maybe add this to suse wiki as an example of generating custom rpm. I bet a lot of users will appreciate such tip.

By the way, FeatherMonkey, you can set up single click in windows too (since XP) in Windows Explorer

Ahh but can I get a central repo for all my apps

I couldn't go back now there's not much i miss from windows. Game consoles are made for games.

After that linux fits the rest, and I've learnt more playing with linux than how ever many years with Windows.
