I've been using SuSE for some time through a number of releases over several years. I upgraded a couple of weeks ago to SuSE 10.2. In my case, I found Novell-zmd zenworks did not work well for me for being flagged for updates.

I surfed a lot looking for answers, and found a number of people discussing opensuse-updater

Long story short, using Yast (a great tool) I removed "with no conflicts" zmd, rug and zen. To resolve conflicts I had to resolve a number of conflicts, I just selected removal of those directly associated apps. I did not yank any of them out leaving any unresolved conflicts.

Then, I loaded opensuse-updater via Yast. I went back and double checked my Installation Sources in Yast, I have eight sources I use. I then rebooted. After this, I had no problem with notification and installation of updates using opensuse-updater. That was a couple of weeks ago and it has been 100% stable.

Before doing this, Novell-zmd did not always load on boot and zenworks other times lost synchronization with most of my installation sources. In my case, it was extremely frustrating. Since using opensuse-updater I have had absolutely no problem and I'm getting all of the updates from all of eight of my Installation Sources as I expect.

I'm just passing this on FYI for someone else to try if having similar problems. I am NOT making any judgment calls for or against Novell-zmd zenworks or opensuse-updater. I'm just sharing as a person that really likes SuSE 10.2 what helped me. I'm a big fan of SuSE. I think it's one of the best distros out there, at least in my opinion and for my needs. I also used KDE.

May I ask which sources you are using with the openSUSE updater?
