I've searched the forums and no one has already mentioned it in the past so I'm going to go out and spread the word for those of you who don't already use it.
OpenDNS provides a faster, safer DNS service than your default ISP. You might want to try it, it makes your websites pull up faster. More information at opendns.com. They have tracking for your dns requests also, thats always interesting to look at if your a hardcore internet power user. The OpenDNS IP's are: * 208.67.222.222 * 208.67.220.220 |

I tried adding that to /etc/resolv.conf, but the networkmanager over wrote it. I followed the directions here http://www.opendns.com/start/unix.php but I dont have /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf, so I can't
Change the prepend line to read: prepend domain-name-servers 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220; |

Yast can be used to set the OpenDns ip address's
yast --> network devices -> dsl --> edit (selected) --> connection parameters --> unclick "automatically retrieve DNS" --> fill in addresses For those interested here's blog by Pogue of the NY Times http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2006/11/01/...r-web-for-free/ |

I found when using network-manager with dhcp enabled that my choice of dns was ignored. Adding the name servers to /etc/resolv.conf also resulted in my choice of nameservers not being used by network-manager. Finally changing the line in /etc/dhclient.conf that begins with prepend to "prepend domain-name-servers 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220;" worked. I can now have wired connection with static IP and opendns, wi fi with dhcp and opendns, and key handled by nm-applet and keyring, so I can switch between wireless networks using dhcp with no more effort and my choice of nameservers is always respected.
This is outlined in the opendns guide online. They refer to /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf but in opensuse the file is /etc/dhclient.conf |
