Wow, this is very weird but at the same time interesting AND exciting.
If you have been scampering and encountering my many posts about my 5.1 sound not working on my sound system, I fixed one of the most annoying problems I had in addition to no 5.1 sound. CHOPPY AUDIO! Its horrible! And from my experiences, its gone! I tell you, no magic occured on my computer unless we can call it "Midnight Magic" because its 12 AM here. Ok, after all my bragging etc... Install the win32 codec pack, its got everything from mp3 to video. Other codec packs are laying around on packman, doesnt hurt to install those too. (Which coincidently is what i did). In addition to this, if your using RealPlayer... just dont. Its a piece of ****, and is wasteful with resources. So what i did was go with the 2nd option in my mind... Totem. What a snazzy name! So... once you installed the codecs, and start using Totem. The choppy audio should be gone! PS. In addition to that, try to open alsamixer in terminal, and set the volume to something like 40-50. It helps! -Tom |

hmmm, seems that in your case there is something witht the soundcard. i have a 5.1 capable soundcard(but no system) and i use 3 sets of speakers. and works perfectly, no choppy play. I have allways been using xine as backend for all my apps and works great. have you tried kaffeine??much better than totem and uses xine.also you can try mplayer for ur videos, vlc for ur videos AND dvd, and you can try amarok for managing and playing ur collection(if u ask me amarok is the best ever). here are some links:
amarok- http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-naviga...t=/Sound/amarok kaffeine- http://packman.links2linux.de/search?scope...&q=kaffeine mplayer- http://packman.links2linux.de/search?scope...e&q=mplayer vlc- http://packman.links2linux.de/package/vlc |

i think Mplayer is too hard to configure. well idk about that because i never really learned how to use mplayer, but i installed it and was stuck with text, not a GUI.

that's because if u type mplayer in konsole it will give u just that output. in order to make it work, create a desktop icon, and in the "command" case type: mplayer .That will start the gui.
