Been using these for a couple of days - seems that a couple of new minor bugs have appeared, and the major one I suffered from is no better - hogging system resources for long periods.

that is mono flaw, mono is real resource hog. At this point either Suse will go back to old Yaat or adopt SMART (which still feels beta).
with zen updater starting at boot I twice had to wait 1 min 30 sec for system to come out (usually 1 min) without zen updater running, system boots in 40 sec.

Do you mean Yast2 freezes for 15min?
I had just one repository freeze yast2, my others were ok.

in general, hogging system means that software is taking a lot of RAM/CPU slowing down system which mono certainly do.
Freezing Yast does not affect system responsiveness (at least with custom kernel)
