OK, thanks. quicktime and wmv are working now!
at least with stand alone files. in the browsers, they are a little strange: in firefox they quicktime doesn't get recognized. the wmv on cnn.com still asks for the windows players. in konqueror, quicktime movies of three resolutions play automatically at the same time. I have to stop it manually. I am still working on getting them to play in firefox because firefox is clearly faster than konqueror on my machine. but overall it's been an interesting experience. the hardest part was to manually add repos servers in the list. it turned out some packages for 10.0 are in 9.2 and 9.3 directories. |

dont mix versions like that. that will cause major headaches, and lead to system instability.
do a search in yast for plugin |

The problem is concerned with this package "libdirectfb". You can download this package from: http://rpm.pbone.net/ , or can upgrade your repository list from: http://wiki.suselinuxsupport.de/wikka.php?...useRepositories I think the easier way is using apt/synaptic or smart for package management. On the repositories listed on the how to is everything you need. Usually the problems are concerned with the libraries (speex + boost), be sure that youo have installed it. libXmC... is not necessary on SuSE 10.0, only on 9.x. Cesar |

thanks, I figured out the problem with libdirectFB and fixed it.
and the libxvmcw gave me some problems as I couldn't find it. glad to know it's not needed in 10.0 now the only thing that bugs me is that I couldn't get kaffeine/xine working in firefox. how do I config it as a plugin in firefox? konqueror is slow and looks weird as a browser. |

It should be easy to find all the plugins (for kaffeine, xmms, mplayer, ...) with Synaptic or Yast. Konqueros is pretty nice as "Linux Explorer", but I don't like for Web browsing, since Opera, Mozilla, Firefox or Netscape works smoothly (much better than konqueror). But, for exploring the PC, is just perfect. |

LIBRARIES FOR CD/DVD RIPPING ------------------------------------------- First you need a large amount of codecs packages in order to do it fine: 1.- Packages available on repos: lame fame libfame libmusepack xmms-musepack normalize cdda2wav faac flac vorbis-tools mp3splt Mplayer bmp 2.- Packages not available on repos: mac: ftp://fr.rpmfind.net/linux/dag/redhat/9/e...rh9.rf.i386.rpm cdcd: ftp://chuck.ucs.indiana.edu/pub/array2/li...6-2mdk.i586.rpm libmp3splt: http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/mp3sp.../downloads.php If you have problems, seach for those packages on: http://rpm.pbone.net/ Libmp3splt need to be converted from .deb to .rpm using alien tool or copiled from source. ------------------------------------------- FRONT-ENDS FOR CD/DVD RIPPING ------------------------------------------- Now we have the core, we only need the GUIs that uses that core. Here some options: http://www.kde-apps.org/ 1.- Common libraries (required for many GUIs): perl-Gtk2 2.- Ripping packages available on repos grip Videos-DVDRip lxdvdrip [EDIT] K9Copy 2.- Audio format converters: soundconverter: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/download.p...tent=29024&id=2 gnormalize: http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforg...48-1.noarch.rpm mp3splt-gtk: http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/mp3sp.../downloads.php mp3splt-gtk need to be converted from .deb to .rpm using alien tool or copiled from source. ------------------------------------------- RESULTS ------------------------------------------- You should have a pretty good Linux multimedia platform for ripping video and audio. Please, leave your feedbacks here. Cesar |

Hi, Anybody knows how to use tables on this forum? Probably I can write a How to that include all the multimedia support packages on a single table (libs+codecs+ripping). Just for test purposes: <table> <tr> <td> Testing table usage </td> <td> Column 2 </td> </tr> </table> |
