Thats true, but if I get all the dependencies then this method is the easiest. I will your the apt-get method when I don't know the dependencies.

If you try Smart (download it from Guru), it will list the dependencies before they are installed, and then you just need to do one click for the dependencies to be installed, or for you to reject the installation. ... Smart is still in beta, but its getting better each release. Of course to install Smart, you need to sort out its own dependencies. Linux_learner has contributed some great threads and guides on this subject. I have read Smart will be included as part of SuSE-10.1.

That is good. Right now after this codec installation, Suse is all I need except for DVD ripping. Since I do that every so often, I am not in a hurry to get that working.

I recommend you take a look at:
k9copy: http://k9copy.free.fr/
vanred: http://sourceforge.net/projects/charemma
lxdvdrip: http://packman.links2linux.org/?action=603
Be certain to satisfy their dependencies before installing.

Here are a couple good threads to read:
http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.ph...25207&hl=k9copy
http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.ph...22754&hl=k9copy

Very nice threads, oldcpu. You should write a "how do I rip a DVD?" thread.

I am gonna try this later today. thanks a million!
my question is: is this the same with suse 10.0 and 9.x? (I'm using 10.0, and there's no install/uninstall option in YaST. I assume it's replaced with softward management. I also have a Kpackage which I rarely use.)
and how do you find all these multimedia packages? by searching all those names? is that a complete list you have here? I don't see the categories you listed.
I am a little nervous deleting all those packages.
