It took me a little while to set up a working ftp server just the way I like it. I am situated behind a router and share a 'net connection with some other computers. I was unable to use default port 21, and I have static IP address, which requires me to use the services of http://www.dyndns.com
This file enables: - anonymous access disabled - local access enabled with write permissions to home directory - a white list of users that are permitted to connect - pasv mininum/maximum ports for firewalled or NAT setups - chroot jail for all users If you encounter errors or suggestions, please let me know. [attachmentid=1492] ps - If you are behind a router and have forwarded all the correct ports (port 21, and 4 or 5 passive ports) and also opened the openSUSE firewall with the same settings and you still can't connect, try typing the following: modprobe ip_conntrack_ftp modprobe ip_nat_ftp If it works, then you must enter YAST, find sysconfig editor, and search for 'MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT' and add the two modules to the list. This post helped me a lot setting it up Works with openSUSE 10.2 and vsftpd 2.0.5-24 . |

instructions are ruff round the ages you may want to clear that up. also if this is a config for local ftp access (lan only) then you have a firewall issue on one of the box's because port 21 should work as should port 20. if this is a config for wan ftp usage then the port restriction could be isp based but this would be stupid as it would disable all ftp access whether you are serving or are a client looking to d/l something from the web.
therefore i conclude this to be flawed and useless till it is revised with the solution. mean i know but unfortunately it is true. |
