ps -x gave no "inetd" process

I believe as of SuSE 9.3 there was a change to use the xinetd super server (instead of inetd).

You should be able to manage services using YaST's runlevel editor, or using the chkconfig program.

when I try to start the vsftpd manualy it tells me to use inetd.conf
