due to enormous popularity of my howto (joking), I decided to update my description regarding custom kernel.
I have re-written it so it should be more "universal" and should work with any future kernel (unless it will be no longer "universal"). I removed any references to different patches. If someone is interested in these,

Any comments, complaints, crying for help welcome.

custom kernel will not speed up system responsiveness very much. This might help:

One thing, howto contain some information regarding off line nvidia installation and building multikernel system with nvidia.
However i have no experience with ATI, so I did not mention it.
