Problem: when I change to static IP address, connection doesn't work... So I can't config router. There's something I've to know (maybe something about router configuration before setting up static ip)?

Thx

Hi Nik, I'm guessing about your situation here. I'm think you might be on address 192.168.0.something or 192.168.1.something. And I'm thinking maybe you're using 192.168.2.x when you should use your template instead. Is that the problem?
If you enter ifconfig as root (su/password) you should see your IP address and thereby have a template, probably different from mine, to work from.
Cheers

I've 192.168.2.2 and my router 192.168.2.1. I'm wireless connected to my router and DHCP server enabled, in IP address pool Start IP is 192.168.2.2 and End IP is 192.168.2.254 (I think I disable DHCP connection when I set up static IP address, maybe it can help?). I'm sorry, but I'm new to computer network...

Well I'm a bit bushed here Nik. But there are things you can chech. For example you should be able to ping the router at 192.168.2.1 to see if you've got "connectivity". And if so you can configure the router by entering http://192.168.2.1 in your browser. Also check that firewall is disabled while you muck around with the network. Also you perhaps/probably need to set DNS settings for the internet when you go off DHCP. Theyre in yast -> network card -> edit -> hostname and name server -> modify -> -uncheck update via dhcp -> enter appropriate name server1&2. Also routing -> default gateway is 192.168.2.1

Cheers

router needs to be set to a assign a static ip. i set my routers dhcp server to look for my mac and then give me an ip based on that. So every time i reboot or do a cold boot, no matter what os i use, i always get the same ip.

The config to do this is different for every routers and i know that on some (like, mine, a wrt54g v2 using the default linksys firmware) you can't do it. so you may wanna look in to a 3rd party firmware. I have to admit i was lucky i chose a linux based router to be gin with it made the upgrade to DD-wrt much easier and tbh it also made me realise exactly what this would could do.
