Problem: when I change to static IP address, connection doesn't work... So I can't config router. There's something I've to know (maybe something about router configuration before setting up static ip)?
Thx Nik |

If you enter ifconfig as root (su/password) you should see your IP address and thereby have a template, probably different from mine, to work from. Cheers John |

router needs to be set to a assign a static ip. i set my routers dhcp server to look for my mac and then give me an ip based on that. So every time i reboot or do a cold boot, no matter what os i use, i always get the same ip.
The config to do this is different for every routers and i know that on some (like, mine, a wrt54g v2 using the default linksys firmware) you can't do it. so you may wanna look in to a 3rd party firmware. I have to admit i was lucky i chose a linux based router to be gin with it made the upgrade to DD-wrt much easier and tbh it also made me realise exactly what this would could do. |
