I'm trying to autoload the alsa-oss emulation modules 'snd-pcm-oss' and 'snd-mixer-oss', so that I can use skype. Up until now, I've just manually loaded them with modprobe. Which config file do I edit to make this happen at boot, system-wide? I'm just a bit unsure of the syntax etc

I hope (along with tens of thousands of others) skype produces a video and alsa capable update soon.... On the other hand, maybe an open source alternative using the 'libjingle' library will provide the world with supperior communication tools:

Anyway, hoping someone can shed some light. Thanks.

There is a Skype beta out that uses alsa. Google for it and you will find. I've been using it for a couple of days, and it seems OK. Had a myserious line drop today - but that could've been anything. Doesn't quite all work yet - ringing a different device doesn't work - but it looks OKish to me. No video though
(using SUSE10.1 and downloaded beta rpm rather than compiled it)

You'll need to adjust Alsa dmix pugin which provides for direct mixing of multiple streams.
It'not only for Skype - it really cool thing if you don't have a hardware mixer on you soundcard.
