SuSE ships with an old HPLIP, 2 versions out of date. HP.com has an up todate HPLIP driver and excellent instructions for a variety of different distros. I have no experience with the 1020 but that's how I got an PSC 1410 to work for printing and scanning.

I've tried the whole procedure but it does not work for me. I might be missing something since everything seems to work correctly untill I get to the last point of selecting the PPD file.

At that point I don't get the option highlighted in the How To. I only get the one that appears below it named:
HP Laserjet 1020 Foomatic/foo2zjs (recomended) (HP-LaserJet_1020.ppd.gz)

Choosing this file when I try to test the printer I get absolutely no output what soever....

any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi oriol, I only just now noticed this, sorry.
Anyway, I can only assume if the file isn't in the database then it didn't get there. So if it didn't get there then maybe the problem isn't he hotplug or the cups stuff. Instead I would focus on the prerequisites & the make/make install parts.. So I suggest you redo it with special attention to the early bits.

Let us know how u go
Cheers

Great how to.

I am using an HP1018 Laser with SuSE 10.1 and the steps are almost the same.

The only bit I could not do was this step:

Arrange firmware upload

(1) Modify the file /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules

* Find the line SUBSYSTEM=="usb", KERNEL=="lp*", ACTION=="add", NAME="usb/%k", SYMLINK+="usb%k", GROUP="lp" (searching on "lp*" makes this easier")
* Comment the line out by adding # at the beginning

(2) Modify the file /etc/udev/rules.d/11-hplj10xx.rules

* Comment all originally uncommented lines in the file out (use #)
* Add this line to the end of the file: SUBSYSTEM=="usb", KERNEL=="lp*", ACTION=="add", NAME="usb/%k", SYMLINK+="usb%k", GROUP="lp", RUN+="/etc/hotplug/usb/hplj1020"

It would not let me change the files.

But even though I did not do this step it all works fine

Cheers.

Hi Darren_07
Maybe you didn't edit the files as a superuser? [menu ->system ->file manager ->superusermode]
Apart from that I can't think why you couldn't change them.
Glad u liked the HowTo - thanks

Had the same problem.
You need to download more for the package to work. Follow the the instructions from http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/

Hope that helps.
