Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to put it, but here goes..

For those of you who use the xfire plugin for gaim/pidgin, and noticed the database out of date (people are playing a number instead of a game name), here you go. It's updated up to yesterday, March 26, 2008.

Below is a tar file containing an updated gfire_games.xml so that pidgin will correctly display such stuff.

To install:

1) Untar the file. Right click and untar it or put it on your desktop and in the terminal/console/konsole run: tar -xvf ~/Desktop/Mar-26-08-gfire_games.xml.tar.gz

2) Put it yourself via your favorite file manager/browser in /home/YOURNAME/.purple/ (notice the dot) to replace your current one. Alternatively, after the command in step 1, cp ~/Desktop/gfire_games.xml ~/.purple

3) In pidgin, go to account-->xfire-->reload game id list.

You can find it http://frozenfox.freehostia.com/gfiregames.html here at my page since I don't see a place to attach files to the forums here.

Thread approved as genuine topic and not SPAM as I had suspected.

Update: Xfire released an update a few hours ago (April 7 2008). I've updated the games list accordingly. See the first post for the new file.

Due to how often this file is updated, after this post, I will not bump this thread anymore (and it will probably move to the thread graveyard ;D) unless the forum mods would prefer that route, as I imagine it would get annoying. Refer back to this post or the xfire site yourself whenever you find your gfire list out of date for some time (people playing a number instead of a game), as it may be out of date and I may have it updated here. If it is not up to date at that point, go ahead and tell me (preferably on aim), and I will work on it. I hear gfire has new developers, so perhaps they will integrate the new file into gfire and save the trouble at some point, who knows?

It appears I can't update the first thread anymore (I'm assuming there's an editing cut-off period of sorts), which would have made things easier (users could check this post occasionally to see if there's any updates, while the topic itself is not continually bumped into view by new posts on my end). Thus, the date there on the first post (or this one) is not necessarily accurate. If the edit option is here and I'm just amazingly blind, please let me know.

I hate to go back on saying "i wont change this thread anymore", but it will indeed be the last time, because I won't be needing to work on this file anymore. It seems the new devs have solved the problem:

Update April 12, 08: The new gfire devs have a new version in (unreleased at the time of this post) beta testing. Please see their new site for the most up to date gfire_games.xml and gfire version.http://edhewitt.co.uk/gfire/ as such, this post (and the section on my site) will no longer be updated.

FrozenFox, I never got to try your version of gfire, but I did get to try gfire when it was under devment a year and half ago. It was heaven sent for me just being a brand new linux user, but I was quite disappointed when devment stopped for the project and I was forced to use an old version of gaim to still use gfire. But I am excited to hear that a new team is working on gfire. Thanks for the informations.
