Hi, I don't know whether a guide for this exists in the suse forums, but I am writing one anyway. Remember how u could the magic lamp genie effect of Mac OS X by setting the maximum waves to 0, anyway Apple has patented that animation so the default minimum waves is 3. There is an easy way around it though to get the authentic effect cause the new one is lame.

Here is what u need:

1. ghex, it can be installed with Yast.
2. a text editor like kate is enough.

Before starting any thing stop compiz fusion, using fusion icon set the
window manager to kwin for kde or metacity for gnome.

Open a konsole and type "su" and your password.

1. type ghex2 to open editor as root
2. use ghex2 to open "/usr/lib/compiz/libanimation.so"
3. find "magic_lamp_max_waves", look for following "<min>3</min>", change "3" to "0"
4. save it and close ghex2.
5. in the konsole with root access type: kate /usr/share/compiz/animation.xml
6. find "magic_lamp_max_waves", look for following "<min>3</min>", change "3" to "0"
7. save it and close.
8. type exit in konsole and then close it.
9. if compiz fusion was running then restart xserver, log out first and then press "Ctrl"+"Alt"+Backspace.
10. Now start compiz fusion and go to compizconfig-settings-manager and in the animation section go to effect settings and in the magic lamp animation change the number of waves to 0.

You now have the authentic OS X genie effect, ENJOY!

Without any major architectural changes to the Compiz effects, this patch will almost be guaranteed to work in any future versions. So if it breaks in next upgrade, fix it!

Take care!

If I had Compiz installed, I would try. Most people here probably don't have compiz up and running atm.

I most definitely did miss the effect! Thanks for your how-to - to be honest I had already done this a while ago after reading a much more complicated description somewhere else, but kudos for your simple explanation.

Cheers!

Khurrum,

Just as soon as I can assemble a machine capable of these whiz-bang compiz goodies I have only seen in flash videos on YouTube, I shall test this out. Thanks for sharing.
