Howto: Install And Use Smart On Opensuse 10.3 (guru Version)

I did this but I can't seem to find the d*** SMART on my system to use it!! As a secondary option I tried installing it via OneClick and even though it says it is successful, I still can't see the icon anywhere to run it...

Then one or more parts FAILED because the "zypper install smart" installs it and it's one of the first steps.

same result as ToxicWaste.

Ok...do you folks want help? Neither of you provided anything to diagnose what failed..are you just cutting and pasting the whole paragraph and praying it works? The list of commands is intended to be entered 1 at a time and the results watched to ensure that step ran ok...if that step fails you post and say I attempted command xyz and the result I got was "abc"....it doesn't help to say "It doesn't work"....provide information.

for whatever reason it did not work for me. have sussed out
a few other avenues. your link solution should have worked!

no big deal though, like i said backup with acronis ti9 home is a dream!!

back to i was before.

i love dabbling so if i find a solution it may apply to ToxicWaste as well!

I always install Smart 1st thing using Yast. That way It does all the dependencies for me. Then I add the guru/packman repo and update all the Smart rpms.

Smart can then be found Kmenu > System > Configuration > Package Manager (Smart)
Where the actual command is "smart --gui".

Then I found that using it failed to make it start; so, I:
right click Kmenu
select Menu Editor
navigate to Smart
add an "x+ space" in front of the "smart --gui" command, to read "x smart --gui"

Or, you can do it in a terminal as root.

"smart channel --add http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/files/smar...-10.3.txt"
works for me; I use most one time then when I have what I need, I uncheck them

"smart mirror --add http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/files/smar...rs-eu.txt"
except I used "my-smart-mirrors.txt" vice mirrors-eu.txt
allows mine to quickly zing through the updates = best tip posted in a while, Thanks Famewolf.

I never said I didn't run the commands one by one. Unless you are a mind reader, something you admitted that you aren't, you can't know something like this, correct? I don't like bad attitude, it just ruins the fun for everyone.

So, I will just do this again and copy paste my terminal output here for you to see. You don't have to be weird and kind of rude and you are not forced to help me or anybody else. You are supposed to help if you feel like it, right? I think that is the way to go, anyway, I think you should just relax and have fun with openSUSE, that is what I am trying to do anyway.

Oh when I said "got any news" I was referring to taz_devil that has the same issues with me.
