This howto is version-agnostic (presuming 10.0+), as the tutorials are demarcated into version sections. Firstly, there is adding the relevant Package Sources:
http://opensuse-community.org/Package_Sources

This will add:
  • Online Source
  • Packman
  • Guru
Once your package sources are enabled, you can then simply install the necessary packages you will require for enabling certain Restricted Formats:
http://opensuse-community.org/Restricted_Formats

This includes:
  • MP3 Playback
  • Playing Encrypted DVDs
  • Playing DiVX/xvid videos, and
  • Windows Codecs

HI,
This maybe the single most improved way to update your yast safely, I have broken my SUSE more times than I like to admit by trying to download the wrong file or Yum that conflicts with something and then when you boot , its broke. h34r:
Many Newbies are trying things out, and don't understand the difference sources can mean headaches.
Thanks For Fixing this for a newbie.
This has turned My amd64 PCI into a thing of beauty.
PSPS I think I am going to stay put for good..

I think you'll need to make sure that you use 10.0 repositories (also listed at the place linked-to above).

I would like to ask why repositories aren't already added during the installation? Why do we have to add them ourselves later? For some of them, maybe it's licensing issues, but for the Novell ones, shouldn't they be done automatically?
