Well, I've problems with starting beryl-manager.
I'm running SuSE 10.1, GNOME and have installed a nVidia-driver.

In my xorg.conf I've this sections:

Section "Device"
BoardName "GeForce Go 7600"
BusID "1:0:0"
Driver "nvidia"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Screen 0
VendorName "NVidia"
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
Option "backingstore" "true"
Option "TripleBuffer" "true"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "on"
EndSection

But when I run beryl-manager the system kicks me back to the logon system

Can anybody tell me why?

Tell me, what NVidia driver version are you using? What Xorg version and last but not least - have you deleted all the references to DRI in your Xorg.conf?

Now I have a problem with my window-manager.
See:

I think the problem is, that my windowmanager is set to "unknown"..where can I change it?

No, your problem is that you are most likely using an incompatible theme, try switching to using the emrald theme manager and then select an emarald theme - see how that goes.

TLP: Thanks for the X.org 7.1 and AIGLX howto's. They worked great.

(At first the titlebars were flickering badly, but that was caused by misspelling the word "enabled" in the "composite" section of xorg.conf. )

What exactly is the nature of your problem? Are you not getting any 3D rendering, or does glx info show mesa rather than nvidia?

An exact error description will help immensely.

Anytime, and if you run into any problems feel free to join the beryl forums or plug it in here

actually i never even checked to see if 3dacc is on or not until i saw this post, mainly cause the nvidia driver readme said it's activated by default. so i ran cedega and it failed the 3dacc test. quake4 didn't work either.

in my case the nvidia driver is working (not the mesa one) but i have no 3d rendering whatsoever.

i'm a newbie (prolly just like this guy here), so yeah how can i enable it? i mean what exactly did the sax2 fail to do?

[edit]
i reinstalled my drivers and everything works just fine. i have no idea what is to blame for that problem

In order to get accelleration, the line
Code:
Option****"RenderAccel"****"true"
has to be in the graphics card's "Device" section in xorg.conf.

(SaX2 will put it in there, but, In my experience, if you let the NVIDIA installer configure xorg.conf for you first, SaX2 won't do it properly.)

<edit>
PS to thelinuxportal:
Would you please give instructions on how to add those two repos (the one for X.org 7.1, and the one for beryl) to Smart?

i can help you with that.
browse to the repo with the web browser to see the filename of the repo and when adding the channel with 'read channel description from url' just add the repo filename to the base url. like this: http://software.opensuse.org/download/X11:..._X11GL.repo__ (no '_'s of course)
