10 Things a new Linux user needs to unlearn

"OK, you have Linux on your computer. Maybe you had some trouble getting it installed and everything working (probably wifi if I had to guess, or a winmodem), but you are past all that, everything is working, and you are ready to start using the computer. Old habits die hard, so hopefully this list helps you get over them.

Of course, rules would not be rules if there were no exceptions to all of the following, but in general all these are the way it is. ..."

Nice article Ken_yap.
Here's an example of a guy who just does not get it. Linux is not like windows, never will be, and doesn't try to be;
"But if these kind of stuff have to be reminded in some article I say linux community has failed, hence they should be doing more work to get it to normal people which doesn't even know where to turn on computer."

P.S. Not a rule, but a perk, Clippy doesn't exist and there is no open source equivalent.[/b]

The mouse tie ups common in other "multitasking" operating systems doesn't happen. You know the one where the icon becomes an hourglass and you are free to multi-task once the computer decides to give you cursor control back.[/b]
Happens all the time on mine, in fact, i've found linux to be much worse than windows for tying up the mouse pointer (goes all jerky and freezes, particularly using that awful thing called Yast 10.1!)

Sometimes it disguises itself as a dog, or a cat, or even Einstein! h34r:

I have had Suse 10.1 for several months now and not yet managed to update 1 thing. I have spent hours and hours on it (and I have been using SusE since version 8, for many years). I am on about my 10th reboot just today. This guy must live in fantasy land.

OK I've finally got zmd and the system updated, and I've calmed down a bit. Here's hoping things get better from now on ...
