AutoLogin is a nice feature, it allows the preferred user to be logged into the system right from the start, without any hassle.
In YAST there is an applet in "Security and User Management", which allows the option to select the user who will be granted the Autologin privileges. However, this applet does not work, even more, it cannot work due to a silly bug. The reason is that there are 2 config files for kdm (K Display Manager): 1. /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc 2. /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc.SuSEconfig The 1-st file is the actual working config file, the 2-nd file is an example provided for those who will edit the kdmrc by hand. Now, when the YAST applet stores its new data after clicking OK, it stores this data to the 2-nd file, leaving the 1-st file intact. You can change the AutoLogin username until you turn blue and start boiling, nothing will change in kdm behavior, until you actually edit the 1-st of these files. The 2-nd file then turns out quite useful - it gives you an example how to edit the 1-st one. Best wishes BNK |
