Here is what I did to get my Canon iP2000 working. Open up YasT and Hardware>printers. My model of Canon wasn't listed in the drop down menu, so I just picked the bjc24 (same as the print cartridges) and then I printed off a test page. Worked great.

compat-2004.4.2-3.i586. rpm no longer works in 10.1, and the Canon drivers are still the same (no updates in 2 years).

Just to add to this post I also got my MP790 is a multifunction canon printer working by using the S600 model. All test pages worked fine.

dfwjung.

I'll answer you PM here so all can see.

!st http://rpm.pbone.net/ is your friend when looking for those strange rpms.

Try entering compat-2004.4.2-3.i586.rpm in the search box. Follow the link & http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3?stat=26&am....4.2-3.i586.rpm, about a dozen sources.

Have fun...

The how to seems obsolete
I just want to add that if you are using the canon ip4000 it is available in yast in Suse 10.2.
Yast will detect your canon ip4000 printer and will load the driver. I am not sure with
the other canon ip versions but I can confirm the ip4000 because this is the one I am presently using.

I have downloaded:
1. bjfilter-common-2.50-2.i386.rpm
2. bjfilter-pixus950i.i386.rpm
3. compat-2004.4.2-3.i586.rpm
I am runnibf SUSE Linux 10.1 on a 64bit dual core processor. (AMD Athlon 64 X2 AM2 4200+)
The Canon printer I try to install is a i950 which translates to pixus950i in Japanese.

When I tried to install "compat..." I got the message: "compat-2004... is in conflict with newer compat-2006...
which is already installed." I don't dare to delete compat-2006...
When I tried to install "bjfilter-pixus950i..." I got the message: Following dependencies unresolved;
libglade.so.0
libpgn.so.2
I could not find the two unresolved dependencies in http://rpm.pbone.net.
What should I do next?

libpgn.so.2 is probably provided by the missing compat package, and for libglade.so.0 install libglade2. Try to delete the newer compat package. If there are any dependancies, YaST will tell you. It would be nice if Canon supplied newer Linux drivers. They are notoriously bad at Linux driver support.

Hello!

Does anyone still read this?...

I'm trying to install a Canon i250.
I followed the instructions here and in the list file I got this error:
error: Failed dependencies:
libglade.so.0 is needed by bjfilteri250-2.3-0.i386
libpng.so.2 is needed by bjfilteri250-2.3-0.i386

(installing bjfilter250-2.3.0)

I installed the following packages (hopping to get it all together)
-compat
-compat-32bit
-gtk1-compat-devel
-libglade2
-libglade-32bit

I'm using openSuse 10.3 for a 64 system.
Suggestions?

Thanks!!

http://openprinting.org/show_printer...num=Canon-i250 is the link where I was reading up on your unit. Did you check there to see if that was of any assistance? Good luck.
