For starters, The howto is here: http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/11504.html
Nice pictures and everything you need. Background> Last evening I decided to update Kde & misc from these sites: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/suse/x86_64/supplem....3/yast-source/ ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/suse/x86_64/supplem....3/yast-source/. Followed the howto & expected to come back 2.15 hours later & have a new KDE. Came back 2 hours later & still had 1 1/2 hour to go = Sloooowww, I guess because it's a hot update & everyone wants to update from the same site. Aborted & went looking for a good mirror! The Novell/Suse mirrors are here: http://www.novell.com/products/linuxprofes...nt_mirrors.html Pick one that is relatatively close to you & that says it's complete! If it doesn't rock & roll, pick another. I chose http://ops.tamu.edu/suse/x86_64/supplement....3/yast-source/ (I'm in Arkansas; site is in Texas) & set up CHANGE SOURCE OF INSTALLATION: http ops.tamu.edu suse/x86_64/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.3/yast-source/ and: http ops.tamu.edu suse/x86_64/supplementary/misc/update_for_9.3/yast-source/. Turned the others off & moved these two up to top. What had been a 2.5 hour task that was to take much longer became a 1:15 hour task & lightening fast download. Note: when I did the update, I also needed my DVD to fill 3 dependencies. Plus, everything seems to work flawlessly = no gottchas so far. Don't forget to set CHANGE SOURCE OF INSTALLATION back to DVD or CD. Hope this helps someone. Have fun |
