There are still errors, however there are "less" errors  . I guess this is as good as it gets for my W3a laptop.
Lets hope once Windows Vista starts eating people's money away, more manufacturers start to think about Linux compatibility.

Thank you for all your help .

Using a search on "Method (_CRS, 0, NotSerialized)" shows many entries in mine and yours -- none of which have a "Return (xxxxx)" with a double "^^" like "Return (^^C1C1.C1E6 ())". Open yours in kwrite, Edit > Find > "Method (_CRS, 0, NotSerialized)" and look at examples that compile w/o errors.

I'd try taking out the "^^" and try a compile...

Thanks for your reply!
I have been trying your hint but it did not work. and I could not find any patterns either Any further ideas out there?

Try fixing this: ACPI Error (dsopcode-0481): Attempt to CreateField of length zero [20060707].

The rest may go away.

LOL.... It messed up my laptop!!! Before the brightness could not be changed in software. Now the software pretty much sets the brightness to the lowest and will not let me change it using the Fn key. I guess that is a side effect of the ACPI code I changed.

I guess that is what I get for changing code without knowing what it does.

Darn it!!! Will it be fixed if i reinstall Suse since i cannot compile the old code (because of the errors)? Any ideas how to change ACPI stuff back to the buggy one?

Just reverse the process in post #14 removing the new DSDT & it should pickup the original.

Have you looked for a newer BIOS?

Let it rest for a week or so, do some searching, then give it another shot.

Ok... Since I messed up too many things and I had upgraded to SUSE10.2 i thought it is better to reinstall the stuff from scratch this time (I have backups and every time I re-install Suse things seems to run better since i gain more experience setting things up right the first time). But I'm back to square one with all ACPI errors.

I have the latest version of the Bios from ASUS installed some time ago (v. 0801) since i get some errors when Suse is detecting the HDD. People suggested my Western Digital HDD may be bad <_< , but changing the hard drive to a brand new Seagate did not make the error go away.

It just seems like this notebook is not that Linux friendly. It works, but with all kinds of errors on boot up. not to mention it takes almost 3 min. for the system to load from a cold/warm boot up due to these errors. ACPI is a big part of the problem. I was hoping this will help a bit, but i guess next time I buy a notebook barebone I'll be more cautious. Especially all manufacturers just freak out as soon as they hear LINUX!!!

By the way wouldn't be nice to have a list of Suse Compatible Laptops that have been tested to have no ACPI or otherwise (at least) kernel related issues.

Here's what a number of users have told the oss site: http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Laptops

Here is a list of what is called cheat codes in Knoppix, or boot parameters in SuSE, try a few in combo: http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Cheat_Codes
like: "acpi=off pnpbios=off noapic noapm" = Helpful for laptops.

Just start typing at the boot splash. Do it trial & error with different codes; when you find the best combo edit menu.lst for a full time fix.

Get a copy of Knoppix Live CD as it's know for it's HW detection. When you find something that works, then it's easy to apply to SuSe.

Hi Snakedriver

thanks for the howto! it looks like the lock-ups (occurring after booting on battery power) on my hp nx6325 are gone. for anyone who's looking for the custom dsl file for this laptop:

http://acpi.sourceforge.net/dsdt/view.php?...amp;name=nx6325

there is one warning, but apparently it's safe to ignore it.
