Go here for suse apt howto:
http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ needed suse apt rpm's are here: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ap....suser-jmorris/ Lua-0.5.5 (or later) = may be included in apt-libs but won't hurt to install apt-libs-0.5.5(or later) apt-0.5.5(or later) synaptic-0.4.6(or later) Plus. I had to issue command: kdesu -c /usr/sbin/synaptic to get synaptic to run from start list. edit sources.list iaw suse apt howto to include suser-jmorris (packman, etc) run synaptic, run synaptic update tell synaptic to install Mplayer Enjoy, Snakedriver ps: Note: If you also add rpmkeys to sources.list & Install packman & jmorris rpmkeys first, all your apt installs work flawlessly |

I'm lost. I've installed apt. I cannot get synaptic going at all. I used apt and synaptic last week on my old machine but am having a few problems with amd64.
Can you let me have a look at a source.list file to see what I need to add to enable updating packages. e.g. what I need to edit in the file to allow obtaining packages from packman and jmaorris etc. Also, if possible, more advice on installing synaptic. Many thansk in advance. |

snakedrivers tip in another post helped loads...
try using kpackage to axcess apt repositories... jmorris etc... worked like a hot **** for me to get MPlayer going on x86_64... check dependencies, install what's needed and go from there... you'll get it! I dislike apt myself, never had luck with it... in 32bit or 64bit...suse's yast makes so much sense to me... all the years I checked in on linux intalling RPMS was always what sent me back to windows hell/boredom, but kpackage is easy to use as well and I found it quite intuitive to get stuff installed... my preference, whatever!!!! Here's my x86-64 sources.list:
Uncomment the line below, in case you want to use SuSE's patch rpms. # Read the information about patch rpms at http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm # rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/ SuSE/9.1-i386 update-prpm security-prpm # A very basic sources.list line. Fastest repository first. # Remove "base" in case you are behind a # slow connection. Fastest repository first. # Visit the server to determine which apt components are provided. # rpm ftp://mirrors.mathematik.uni-bielefeld.de...linux/suse/apt/ SuSE/9.2-x86_64 base update security kde samba3 xorg # kernel-of-the-day mozilla packman rpmkeys suse-people suse-projects suser-rbos rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/ SuSE/9.2-x86_64 base update security kde samba3 xorg kernel-of-the-day mozilla packman rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/ SuSE/9.2-x86_64 suse-people suse-projects suser-rbos suser-jmorris rpmkeys # The list with all available components can be found at: # http://linix01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm # Some components provide experimental software, select wisely! # http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE...ources.list.FTP # Consult the link above if you want to include uri's for src rpms base always gives me an error cause suse hasn't provided the public release just yet; however, all the others give me a hit. be sure to run update or refresh, whatever is in synaptic, to get the latest versions. have fun, Snakedriver |
