Hi, I'm looking for a peice of software to record University lectures, I will be using my laptops internal microphone(probably not the best choice) and need a program that will automaticaly save a new file to a directory with the file name being the current date. If there is no such program is there a console program that can record that i could write a script to use.

Also as har drive space is an issue it would be best if the program can record as ogg files or mp3 file something small, I was looking into using KRecord but it was over 2mb for half a seccond.

Thank you for help in advanced, I have tried google but my searches are not providing the results I need.

You could pipe arecord into oggenc or lame and compress at the same time you are recording.

I used Audacity before http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
But I really prefer to use a regular mp3 recorder. The sound quality is better than if I use my computer's mic.
