Thumbs up

Topic says it all.

I am a happy user of OpenSUSE 10.3 KDE 3.5 and am thinking of starting to use a email client. Currently I use Incredimail under Windows XP and have already established that transferring from this program is a pain! So I have a few question and would like some advice.

- What email client is the best under linux? I have heard Firebird is good and don't know how Kontact is.
- What client is best for transferring from Incredimail?
- Does any of them use a SPAM filter? I read that Spamassassin is included with 10.3 but I'm not sure how to use it.

Just some advice would be great. I will probably find a conversion program to get my stuff from Incredimail to Outlook and transfer to Linux from there.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

I have no idea about xferring from Incredimail, but in a KDE environment I would start with Kmail and see if that will not in fact meet most of your needs. It will autoconfigure Spamassassin and ClamAV (if you choose) and will use Kwallet to store all your needed Email passwords under a single encrypted authorization of your choosing which will release the codes as needed.

I use Thunderbird (Sunbird is something else, a calendar program), which isn't KDE specific. It is a bit heavyweight, but is supposed to import Outlook mailboxes well on Windows, no Outlook mailboxes so can't vouch for that.

What I like about it is I can install the Lightning add-on (for calendaring) and then I can add the Provider for Google Calendar add-on and voila I have a calendar which works anywhere I have Thunderbird. Exchange appointments sent to my gmail address also get automatically imported into the calendar.

That's the one I mean in my first post

I am currently trying to get my email out of Incredimail which is annoyingly difficult! I like Thunderbird so far but will have to find a way to get my messages in. Might start a new post in a different part of the forum. Thanks for the advice!

I can recommend both Thunderbird and kmail, both have worked really well for me. kmail can be a little trickier to set up, but then if you ever plan on using kontact, the integration makes kmail really worth considering.
