I know professional translators working on Linux use it in conjunction with MS Office to check format before sending documents back to clients when they have converted to and from OpenOffice to carry out the work.

See:

You might find further reference to Crossover Office on the Yahoo group "Linux for Translators".

But doesn't MS Word (or Office) work directly with Wine now?

All CrossOver does is add an easy way to install Windows apps in Linux using Wine. CrossOver is an implementation of Wine.

Wine works very well. You have to go to the AppDb and read up on the application you want to install. Once you get used to Wine it's very easy to use.

On the other hand; most times you can do what you need to do in Linux without installing Windows apps at all. There is a Linux equivalent of almost every Windows app.

Another solution is to install VirtualBox and run Windows in a virtual machine so you can run any Windows app without rebooting.

If you just need to share office documents, OpenOffice should work perfectly.

What are you wanting to do that seems to require Windows?
