Hey guys, Im looking for a framework to start building utilities for linux. I am a programmer and have contributed to a number of open source projects in my locality, such as REACT OS. I have coded many utilities which have been incorporated into the final releases.

I have recently switched to linux. I just wanted to know if there is a mechanism of building GUI applications in Linux similar to .NET in windows. I am working with JAVA right now, so please suggest something else

Yeah, i tried Trolltech, its pretty decent, but requires scripting in c. I was looking for something more advanced. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated

If you want to get things running quickly, Tcl/Tk or PerlTk is great for that since the GUI is programmed from a scripting language (Tcl or Perl). There may be other bindings for Tk for your fave lang (Ruby, Python, whatever rocks you). Widgets are not so pretty though.

Well. I'm not a professional programmer (only an 'amateur' one). I'm using Code::Blocks as IDE (it's open source and crossplatform) and the wxGTK libraries toolkit, with wxFormBuilder as GUI builder, for my C++ develop in Linux (and other platforms). I compiled and installed all those tools from their svn sources in my openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 box, and all is running really fine. Moreover, C::B and wxFB have recently released new stable versions if you want to have a quick look at them.

Regards.
