Hi everyone,

Recently my daughter was interviewed and was shown in one of the cable channel in Toronto
When I visit the cable channel's website the video is there but can only be played in windows if you enable the what they call active x. If I try it in linux the player has a word written on the screen in open and close parenthesis saying no video. My question is, is there a work around
so I can play it in linux to avoid the hassle of rebooting to windoze. Your response and advise is highly appreciated

Thanks,
con

Hi deltaflyer,

Thanks for the quick reply, I have the vlc plug-in however I don't have the mplayer plugin. Firefox which is my browser has no problem playing streams except for this video that requires the active x. Will it make a difference if I install mplayer and quicktime? Please advise

Thanks again,
con

Hi deltaflyer,

Thanks a ton.
Maybe there is something in firefox that needs to be figure-out why it still can't play the video.
I tried konqueror using the mplayer plug-in and it works beautifully. Even the audio clarity is superb.

Cheers,
con

Edit:
Yay it is now working in firefox. I installed mediaplayer connectivity plug-in and let it handle automatically which plug-in is best for the streaming media and work. In my case for the problematic video I posted, mplayer is the one.

To oldcpu, I pm him for help on recommended plug-in for recording video stream on youtube like videos., I downloaded the downloadhelper and will try to figure out how it works. Thanks again

Just to add notes in this thread for future reference.
In firefox I am not sure If it is just on my setup, but I noticed
Plug-in like download helper doesn't work in this type of stream
When I click the video it opens on a new window using mplayer/gmplayer.
And I dont know how to record the stream. It is when I use kmplayer where I was able to record the stream in firefox. Maybe you will ask why not use kmplayer with konqueror, I just don't know.Konqueror uses kmplayer to play the stream but for some reason It stops when attempting to record the stream.
