Hi there,

This is my problem; I've installed OpenSuse upon a relatives PC but they have no
connection to the internet to download required codecs.

Can someone give a full list (or links) to the exact codecs required to get Kaffeine & SMPlayer
to play video files ??

cheers oldcpu.

Only had a quick glance but it looks the business mate - i'll go through
it more thoroughly later.

I think this is one of Suse major drawbacks.... especially for those not online - people
want multimedia capabilities right upon installation. It's a real potch.

I think this is only true for newbies or for people who do not have internet.

I've played with distributions that come more intregated with multimedia, and frankly, I prefer openSUSE multimedia, once packman is added as a repos.

Multimedia installation on openSUSE is very FAST (with the packman repos added, and a good internet connection). I get to optimise it the way I want, and not have bloat based on someone else's idea as to what multimedia should be provided. And from what I have seen, Packman tend to be much more timely in packaging updates to the various packages than most other distributions.

There is also a SuSE based distribution that provides integrated multimedia. This distribution can use standard openSUSE (and Packman) rpms. I can't remember the distribution name now, ... and if I find it (and if I find a URL to the distribution web site) I will post it.

The distribution I was thinking about was JAD, where "JAD" stands for JackLab Audio Distribution:
http://jacklab.org/

Here is an old press release on JAD-1.0:

JAD is also trying to become more closely integrated with openSUSE:

cheers oldcpu.

That JAD looks interesting - i've been running Suse (on my own PC) for the past several months, so
i'm quite new to it myself.

I installed couple media packages on the PC that has no internet connection... it's now playing video files

Now i have another problem - No audio is coming through when DVD is playing, yet Amarok plays
music files ?? Any ideas?
