After a clean install of openSuSE 10.3 (64bit) everything was OK. Particularly the sound. I then found out that there was a plugin for Totem to search and view YouTube videos. I tried to compile it but it said that I needed a newer version of GStreamer. So I tried finding one from YaST2 with no luck. Anyway, I downloaded the source and compiled it. Everything was compiled fine. Until I realized, there is no sound in pidgin, no sound in totem, no video in VLC, no sound in Amarok etc.

I have sound when openSuSE logs in and all system sounds, but probably I messed up everything that used GStreamer. Oh, did I mention that I compiled it without first uninstalling it from YaST2? I tried, but there where so many dependencies I said "h***, it would probably overwrite it". But it didn't.

So, what is my next move? I want to undo my compile and get the old GStreamer. Forget about Totem and YouTube.

Regards,
Panagiotis

Go into the source directory of the program you compiled and type:

# make uninstall

If that doesn't work, there is probably no rule for uninstall in the makefile (check the README and INSTALL files for more info).
