Banshee returns this error message when I click the Import CD button:

Quote:
Cannot Import CD

Could not open CD device for reading.: gstcdparanoiasrc.c
(240): gst_cd_paranoia_src_open (): /pipeline/cddarsc:
cdda_identity failed[/b]
What's that mean? How do I fix it?

I'm using SuSE 10.3. When I insert a music CD, Banshee starts up and plays it, but Banshee returns the error message, above, if I click Import CD button.

Additional information about installed packages:

Banshee 0.13.1
Banshee-engine-gst 0.13.1
Banshee-plugins-default 0.13.1
Banshee-plugins-extra 0.13.1

gstreamer010-plugins-base 0.10.17
gstreamer010-plugins-base-oil 0.10.17

gstreamer010-plugins-good 0.10.7
gstreamer010-plugins-ugly 0.10.7

gstreamer010-plugins-bad 0.10.6

Yeah, this is a little oddity....

What I do is this: When I put in a CD Banshee will load and insist on playing the music. That's why you can't rip it: it already has it open. Close Banshee (right-click Quit), and then launch it from the Main Menu. You can then select the CD and rip it.

Inconvenient, but this is my work-around.

There's probably a better solution, but I never asked.

Heh! That actually worked! I wonder if there's a bug report about this? Thank you for your suggestion. I'm busy ripping CDs, thanks to you.
