I tried to burn a DVD with K3b, but it fails, saying it needs dvd+rw-tools
However, trying to install them causes conflict with other standard installed packages. Removing those packages also removes K3b. How do you solve this?? |

You'll need to install the package 'k3b-codecs' from the packman-repository. I also recommend to use the packman-Version of K3B itself.

Code:
Unable to find growisofs executable K3b uses growisofs to actually write dvds. Without growisofs you will not be able to write dvds. Make sure to install at least version 5.10. Solution: Install the dvd+rw-tools package. Unable to find dvd+rw-format executable K3b uses dvd+rw-format to format DVD-RWs and DVD+RWs. Solution: Install the dvd+rw-tools package. (Sorry to have taken so long to answer!) |

k3b works fine for me. Here are the relevant packages I have on my 10.3 system:
dvd+rw-tools-7.0-49 cdrdao-1.2.2-120 cdrkit-cdrtools-compat-1.1.6-22 As you can see, no cdrtools. I have to question where you got that from. |

Thanks for your idea! |

Hmmm... that should've worked when installing k3b-codecs, since this is a metapackage which installs all needed packages as dependencies. When installing it the first time, did you tell YaST to ignore dependencies? That you should ever do.
