Opensuse 10.3 Totem No Sound / Mplayer Ok

Hi,

Can anyone assist me in diagnosing where may Totem no sound problem lies?

I have installed OpenSuse 10.3 + Gnome on my dual booted PC. I have installed the additional codecs pack and have installed things like mplayer & co. I have the libxine1 library.

My videos play but have no sound in Totem. Mplayer plays them well with sound (but has no controls - so I have a preference for Totem).

I am probably missing something or have something installed that clashed with the codec libraries that Totem needs. Totem by the way, in its preferences, has the sound set to stereo (there are no other options on the sound tab), and there are no plugins listed in plugins.

1) The Totem movie player relies on the gstreamer or xine back-ends to function. This is almost certainly where the problem lies. Try launching totem from a terminal and see if you get any errors reported.

I don't have totem installed, but a quick google search revealed a couple of posts mentioning '~/.gnome2/totem_config' file, which has some audio configuration lines. Maybe locate and post contents of this file.

My videos play but have no sound in Totem. Mplayer plays them well with sound (but has no controls - so I have a preference for Totem).[/b]

I don't use Gnome nor Totem, but I did want to say there is an EXCELLENT front end for mplayer called smplayer, which provides superb controls to mplayer.

I don't use Gnome nor Totem, but I did want to say there is an EXCELLENT front end for mplayer called smplayer, which provides superb controls to mplayer.

I have d/l this package. It works great.....


....but I would like the STD app to work, so if I can I will pursue the Totem route, and if that fails ultimately then I will end up using smplayer - it is very good (why do I bother with Totem?).

Try replacing that with

audio.driver:esd[/b]

Note: Make sure you remove the # character from this line.
