The Gnome volume control that used to reside in the system tray at the bottom right of my screen is not longer there. How do I get it back?

TIA

In KDE the application is called kmix. It WILL be something different in Gnome. Possibly alsamixer ?

The alsamixer is not really the volume control I was looking for. However, the volume control has somehow magically reappeared!
