If I go to yast > sound my sound card appears and is configurable.

If I go to computer > sound I am told that there are no sound cards. More over, the audio devices are not enabled in config.

So I am not sure what is going on, but I would like to resolve this.

Help will be appreciated. Thanks.

BTW I am running OpenSUSE 10.3 and gnome.

Please, can you try working your way through this openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide:
http://en.opensuse.org/AudioTroubleshooting

Please post here if you get confused/stumped by the guide at any point.

Thank you. This worked. The alsa firmware was not installed.

Now my next problem. I have lost the volume control. The icon once appeared in the system tray at the bottom right of my screen. However, it no longer appears and I can't find anything that resembles the Gnome volume control. Where should I go looking for this.

Thanks.

Apologies, I'm a KDE user, and I don't know the 1st thing about Gnome. In KDE the program kmix is in the lower right corner. Is this alsamixer in Gnome? .... Hopefully a Gnome user will chime in here.
