I have the quake wars retail DVD
I have the 1.4 linux client from here http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/linux/etqw/ it says you must copy some files over from the dvd, but I don't know which. what do I do with the file once I get it? and on an unrelated note, is suse 10.3 any better with ati drivers than it used to be? or should I go for 10.2? just want to know all this before I install suse again tommorow and give the whole linux thing a try again.... |

I had better luck with 10.2.
I'm probably the only one who will answer your question. Lots of unhelpful lurkers around here, who only come out if you say something unflattering about them. Maybe this will do the trick. |

If you are re-installing, I would certainly go with 10.3. The One click install stuff works like a charm.
Don't know about Quake, sorry. |

They're still not fixed for me with my integrated notebook graphics, but some people have reported success. It's a gamble, so if you have an extra hour or two, you might go ahead and install 10.3 and see if you are one of the lucky ones.
But it should be evident fairly early on whether they are going to work or not, so don't invest too much time in fighting with that ATI driver, just downgrade to 10.2 and install the 8.40.4 driver and you should be fine. If you are short on time and patience, I would just go with 10.2 straight away. |
