hi there,
I'm running opensuse 10.3 since a few hours. This is my first contact with gnome, not with console based unix/linux systems. However, I want to see some graphics and have some fun with linux and, why not, try out a game: I want to try this out: http://scummvm.org/downloads.php But at this page, it doesn't mention opensuse. Since I have no experience with linux what soever, I have no idea what to download. And after I download it, what then? Just a doubleclick in the downloadmanager from firefox won't do the trick I'm afraid :-( Can anyone advice me on this? |

Go there and search for scumm and you get few hits and install version 11 with 1-klick-install, easiest way B) |

Update: unfortunatly, it seemed to have installed correctly, but I cannot find any icon/link to the program itself  |

Look for the icon in your Gnome menu (bottom left usually). It'll probably be under Games...
Save this link as well - http://packages.opensuse-community.org/ One huge difference to note here. When programs install in Linux, they almost never install desktop icons, if you assumed that they would. Always look in the menu for installed programs, you can't go wrong here. (Once you find the icon you can right click and select "Add to Desktop" or whatever or just drag it onto the desktop) |

well I actually found it under /usr/games but appearantly it didn't install any icon (did it myself).
Well, now the free games that I downloaded are running, but I thought that the whole software package included all the old titles. I actually wanted to play day of the tentacle but I dont have the cd anymore. Didn't thought I would need it because the games are so old. Like mame, I thought there would be rom's or such where you could choose from... |
