I do not have 3D with one of my systems. There was an update to SuperTux (version 3?) a few weeks back that ran syrup-slow. I had to roll back to the previous version to get adequate performance again.

AFAIK ST3 is a seperate game and not available via 'update' - not that I am suggesting the update is *not* the cause of course!

I think that the SuperTux version that slowed my system to a crawl was from Packman, not the regular openSUSE update repositories. I mean, it was really slow....

I do not have a very good video chip in my main machine, but I have not, as yet, needed any of the whiz-bang 3D spinning cube stuff. I prefer everything to be reliably solid. OK, and very inexpensive, too.
