Hey again!

I just wanted to let anyone who has enjoyed Tux Racer and Planet Penguin Racer (ppracer) in the past that, if you didn't know there is new work being done with this and Extreme Tux Racer (etracer) is available from the software.opensuse.org, click the big box on the right for more software, search for extreme tux racer and one-click install it. It's one of the /download.opensuse.org/repositories/GAMES:/ repo's but I forget which one.

No icon, so start it from a terminal with etracer. It can be installed along with planet penguin racer so there's no interference.

This thing starts off right away with incredibly difficult courses! Quite a challenge I must say. But the courses are much more extensive and the artwork is beautiful. It's essentially the same game, but much harder and lots more additions to types of ice, snow, hills, mountains, background, etc.

There are places in each course where there is no escape and you must just pause and exit the race! So if you make a wrong move you may end up in one of these places. You just need to try to remember where they are so you don't get stuck there again. Annoying, but it adds to the challenge. Tux will just keep trying to escape but wherever you turn him there are too many obstructions for him to find his way back onto the course.

I'm enjoying it, but still return to the older one every so often just to be able to get farther along in the races. The new one is beating the heck out of me, it's so difficult. But, real pretty. It's nice to check out the new courses.

I compiled it while running on Debian but it's nice to have it right in the OpenSUSE Build Service to install automatically with YaST.
