I am not too familiar with the way developers cross platform games to mac, but i'm assuming they use opengl instead of directx.
now is it possible to get games that are made for mac to run on linux? I'm just wondering because gears of war is soon to be released on PC and I dont want to have to install windows all over again for a single game. And I dont suppose wine or CrossOver would support them anytime soon. |

Personally, I highly doubt that any mac games will work under linux but that is just my opinion.

? That's almost as bad as asking "why can't i run windows apps on linux?".
Mac OS X isn't even REMOTELY related to linux (well it's related to FreeBSD, which is based on UNIX* which has a different branch where Linux branched off from -.-'''). So, As far as my knowledge goes. There's no such wrapper for Mac environment like there is one for Windows (WINE). So hoping you could install any Mac software on Linux is almost as stupid of an idea as installing Windows software on Linux. You can keep double clicking those .dmg files, but i guarantee the same thing will happen as it did with the .exe files... -.-''' If you don't want to install Windows again just for a video game... don't -.-. Either A) Wait for Cedega's team to figure it out, GoW is a fairly popular game so it should be up on their list at some point. B) buy Xbox360 or C) Wipe out openSUSE and install Windows and live happily ever after... |

well PC games are actually better quality than 360, remember lost planet? such a higher res and graphics option on pc. and ya i understand its using a different branch. but i just hope cedega crosses it quickly, but then again they might need to implement dx9 on cedega. i guess ill just dual boot if they dont cross it in time

I read something about a sort of wine for OS X.
The biggest problem is not darwin, the bsd kernel, since bsd and linux are pretty close, the problem is the graphic layer. Quartz based apps require compositing, something hard to do with the current statue of compositing in linux. Carbon based apps shouldn't be too hard(as hard a wine), but they are mostly legacy apps. The easiest way now for pc gaming is just dual boot windows.

In binary form no, but because OSX and Linux have a lots of similarities, they should be quite easy to port... Actually, any game written using proper crossplatform libraries (OpenGL, SDL, OpenAL) should be a cakewalk to compile for Windoze, OS X and Linux.

thats exactly what i think, but alot are saying that isnt possible...
i dont know i just havent seen that done before either. it would be awesome if it can be done and if people can post 'how to' online. but then again, running on windows isnt too bad either i guess |
