Is there a way to get directX 9 for wine?

I am running team fortress 2 and I am trying to enable anti aliasing
but it does not display of the options in the drop down. Im guessing
this is because wine is running on DirectX 8.1 instead of 9?

Thanks,

As far as I know, Wine does not do anti-aliasing yet. If you have an nvidia card, then a workaround for this is to load nvidia-settings and "force" anti-aliasing in there, sort of like how you would do it with Rivatuner under Windows. This can be pretty heavy on your graphics card, but if you have a modern video card it should be playable like that.

I did try that, I went into 'Antialiasing Settings' and told it to override the program settings and made it 16x, but when I go into the game, it is easy to tell it is not enabled... =(

Strange, I tried it for a couple of games (granted these were all adventure games...) and it seemed to work there... 16x sounds awfully high for AA though... I thought AA only went as far as 8X

Are you sure you did not pick the section for Anisotropic Filtering instead?

Try 2x or 4x for anti-aliasing. Do not forget to check the box "Override Application Settings"

Here is also some more info from Ubuntu forums:

well yes i cranked up both AA and Anisotropic. I'll bring it down a little and try it again when I get home.

Thanks

Codeweaver's Crossover Linux is based on newer versions of Wine than Cedega is and now, with a new release just this week, gets even more modern game support than previously. No idea if you'll have success but they have a trial download so you can check it out. In the last few months they've been concentrating more on gaming than they used to. And you get all the Wine advances, which are many, over the old forked Wine that Cedega uses. Plus, if Crossover Linux works for you and you buy it you contribute to Wine development. Not so with Cedega.

I noticed that when I tried this t he first time I had AA option on 'Enhance Application Settings' and not override. So i changed it to override and set it to 4x but when i load it, it lags ALOT! i would say 1 fps. Have u experienced this before?

As I said, it is pretty resource-intensive and is bound to give a big performance hit... 1fps does seem pretty low though.

I do not think Cedega supports this title yet, or if it does do AA. But if and when it does, that might be a better solution.

thats fine then, i guess i can deal with no AA for now.

Thanks for your help =)

I was browsing linux-gamers.net and i stumbled across a dx9 patch for wine :S I dont really think its real since it was posted in 2005 but maybe if anyone has tried it, could you please let me know if it actually upgrades to dx9?

http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wfdown...=38&lid=260

And i was looking at the Cedega game list and it looks like they support TF2 now.

Transgaming also claims that cedega 6.0 supports anti-aliasing but some people said it does not work :S
