Basically, I just want to play this game world of warcraft I got for christmas; so I downloaded cedega 5.2.8 yesterday. The first time I click it, it creates a manifest file and the second time it opens a window with a tree view in Ark. Unfortunately, I don't really know what I'm doing, so since then I've been reading the transgaming.com faq and coming up short. There was a part about running the .rpm in konsole, but the file I downloaded was a tar archive, so I extracted it and also don't know what to do. So if anyone can hook me up with a step-by-step idiot's guide I would greatly appreciate it.

This howto is pretty good, but I'm still not getting it to work.

First I downloaded:
cedega-engine-5.2.8-local-update.i386.cpkg

It was a tar archive and I extracted it and got:
cedega_5.2.8-1.i386.p2p.tgz

I then extracted that into a folder and got 3 folders (bin, share, winex) and a file called update.reg

When I get to the "How To Install Cedega" I use the section that says:
* tgz - Tar GZipped Package (Slackware Linux, etc)
To install the Cedega tgz package open a console/terminal window and execute the following commands as 'root':

And I type the below in (in root):
# cd /
# tar -xvzf cedega_5.2.8-1.i386.p2p.tgz

I do this and this is the message I get back:
tar: cedega_5.2.8-1.i386.p2p.tgz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Thank you for the help so far, I just hope this a stupid mistake on my part, and not some real error.

I got rid of the .tgz and am now working with the 5.2.3 total package .rpm, but I'm still having problems. Here's what I'm doing in konsole as root:

pete:/home/profile/cedega # rpm -ivh cedega-small-suse-5.2.3-1.i386.rpm
error: cedega-small-suse-5.2.3-1.i386.rpm cannot be installed

Someone on the transgaming forum has helped me get this far; hopefully someone here as well can give me some insight into what's going wrong.

I am having trouble with installing steam via cedega. Having read the link at http://cedegawiki.sweetleafstudios.com/wik...a_4.2.1-1_howto i get as far as this section:

Quote:
Make sure that your video card has working 3D acceleration

Make sure that the latest drivers for your video card have been installed on your system, and that OpenGL is working properly. (NVidia card owners, please visit http://www.nvidia.com. ATI card owners, please visit http://www.ati.com)

To test your graphics card for OpenGL support execute the following command:

$ glxinfo | grep direct render

output will return "direct rendering:"

If this is 'Yes' or 'Enabled' then OpenGL is likely set up correctly. If it is listed as 'no' or 'disabled' then double-check your 3D setup.[/b]
In my xorg.conf file my gfx card is set up as follows:

Quote:
Section "Device"
BoardName "GeForce 7800 GS"
BusID "2:0:0"
Driver "nvidia"
Identifier "Device[0]"
VendorName "NVIDIA"
EndSection[/b]
and mine says no, even though i have installed the nvidia driver using their installer.

As a long time user of cedega I'll try help as much as I can

Download the Cedega 5.2.3 rpm file to your home folder.

now run the following command from a command prompt

rpm -Uvh cedega*.rpm

this should install Cedega but if not you should be able to double click the file and it should auto start package manager and install it (it will possibly prompt for root password)

once cedega is installed type

cedega from a command prompt to start the installation wizard. Then just follow the instructions. if you are still stuck look for me on transgaming.org.
