I'm trying to install some programs with cedega and I get an error saying that the windows installer is an older version and then the install quites. I've been using games that are apparently supported by cedega (UT2004, Doom 3, FFXI) but all of them fail. I have also tried to update the version of windows installer that cedega uses to no avail. Anyone have any ideas??

I've tried installing windows installer 3.1. but I get some error when I run the install with cedega (something like: cannot find a working volume). It seems that the version that came with cedega 4.4 is windows installer 2.0. I have also tried the -winver winxp option and that doesn't help.

UT2004 and Doom 3 both have Linux version so why are you trying to install Windows version?

I have no idea what FFXI is.

The issue is with cedega 4.4 (and perhaps the version of windows installer that comes with it) not the games. I wanted to verify that my install of cedega was working correctly and this is the only software that I had easily available that is supported by cedega. Has anyone who uses cedega ever had to upgrade the version of windows installer to get it working or has it always worked "out of the box" so to speak?

This is really a software trouble shooting issue so I'm not sure why it was moved from the "Suse Help>>Software" forum to the "Community>>Games" forum.

Cedega should always be ready to go for games it supports. However, Cedega is notorious for pulling support from old games, which causes them not to run. Check out the game compatibility database for those titles you mentioned... not sure if Final FantasyI is supported or not.

As far as it being moved here, it's probably because it's game related. Wasn't me, though.

Ah, that explains (in future, helps to say things like this upfront so others know what you're trying to solve )

There are some issues with UT and Doom (depends on which version of Cedega you got):

http://digital-conquest.ath.cx/wiki/index.php/Doom3

Also check Transgaming's forums for possible solution: http://transgaming.org/forum/

Been able to play Q3A for quite some time before the source was released. http://www.planetquake3.net/download...ileid&lid=1763 is the point release for linux. Installed and works a treat. I have also installed UT2004 and FarCry using the linux installers. Failed with Steam on Crossover office, throws some kind of permissios error.

Doom 3, Quake 4, Quake 3 - and team arena, Quake 2 and Quake 1 all native to linux, there are installers to help you do this. Cedega - BLAH!!! WINE, WINEX !!! BLAH!! Don't buy into them, the only way linux is gonna become a mainstream platform is if people put in the effort ot port games, develop them for linux. If we keep running winblows version in API-developments like WINE (WHINE) and Cedega then no-one will bother porting to linux.

Support the Tux, go native only!!

Check out:

I agree more games should be ported to Linux. Personally I'm really happy to hear that X2 is being ported

X2 for Linux

but there are a lot of games that are windows only that I really enjoy (Matrix Online and SWG to name 2) and until they go native I am quite happy to support projects like Cedega and Wine if for no other reason than to have a choice of O/S I can use to support my gaming addiction. h34r:
