Because odds are that you dont have the OpenGL driver for that card working.

How to get 3d working? Buy an nvidia card. If you want more detail check the linux driver forum on rage3d.com. Youll never buy ATI again after about 5 min of lurking through those threads.

Theyre supposed to release a driver that works with the current version of x.org and amd-64 processors in january. Supposedly the drivers are already finished but they cant release them because the people in charge of their web servers are all on vacation. In other news, some people still believe OJ is innocent.

[edit]

In order to see if you have opengl acceleration working type glxgears in console and let it run for a while. If youre only getting 300-400 FPS then youre running without hardware acceleration. With it you should be in the thousands.

well the problem is, up until now, when i first tested AA when it crashed X, the ati drivers were running fine and i was getting around 5000 fps using glxgears. i say until now because when i updated to the latest kernel patch, ive been unable to use agp on my card, and am getting around 300 fps using glxgears...

Everytime you update the kernel, you have to reinstall the ATI drivers. This is only needed for the latest drivers. If you just update the normal drivers in YOU, this is not needed.

Cool

Ah, you are running an older version of suse that doesnt use xorg 6.8 then? Youre in luck. Reinstalling should sort your drivers back out. I had the same problem with suse 9.1 and updating the kernel killing my drivers.

Have fun on AA, maybe Ill join you in January when ATI releases xorg 6.8 drivers
