Have you tried it yet? If so, how does it feel?

I pretty much missed 2.1, only played about 3 times due lack of time but now itching to get back to the game. After all, what can be funnier than to be a 48 Honor noob

Anyways, if you've pleayed it, tell your opinion!

I haven't tried it, yet. I don't know if I ever will go back to playing America's Army. I started playing it the day after the first version's public release a few years ago, and that was on a Windows box. I played it on Linux for awhile, too, but I've been caught up in the addiction known as Enemy Territory. I haven't even played AA v.2, the last version I played was point 1 something.. something close to v.2.

I would love it if the U.S. Marines were to release a similar game focusing on urban combat.

As long as we're on the subject of UT mods, has anyone tried Red Orchestra?

While AA is not technically a mod, it does use the UT engine.

Very true, however so does several other games as well (http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/wiki/Un...ngine_Versions) - each of them being their own, individual, game.

There are only few good 3d engines on the market that most others utilize and 3d engine is market of its own (big money market that is).

Developing a good 3d engine from scratch is not a small task and despite of huge sums ready-made ones cost, it is often cheaper option.

Nevertheless, although a game uses bought-in engine, you can't talk about it as 'mod', maybe a distant hardly recognizable derivative, for the game that engine was originally build for.
