I got this error also. I resolved it by unmounting the cd, inserting new cd, and remounting each time it asked for a new cd.
Code:
kailua:/media # umount -l /media/cdrecorder/ kailua:/media # mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrecorder/ mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only kailua:/media # umount -l /media/cdrecorder/ kailua:/media # mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrecorder/ mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only kailua:/media # |

Hi all. I'm also trying to install the 6 Unreal2k4 CD's, to no avail on SuSE 9.1 Personal. I have two drives: cd-rom (/media/cdrom) & a dvd / cd writer combo. The first disc installs fine; only takes a few seconds before it asks for cd 2. I read in an earlier post that someone had to edit the fstab file & then unmount / re-mount for each cd.
It asks for cd 2, I put it in the /media/cdrom drive, but it keeps asking for cd 2. I tried a suggestion in a previous post -- # umount -l /media/cdrom put cd2 in, then # mount -t /media/cdrom but get nowhere with that approach. godslayer:/home/tyccea # cat /etc/fstab /dev/hde2 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 1 /dev/hde1 swap swap pri=42 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0 proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0 /dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder subfs fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=ut f8 0 0 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom subfs fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=ut f8 0 0 /dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs fs=floppyfss,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0 I've only been using Linux for a couple months, and I really want to know how to do get this game installed. All pointers appreciated. If you need any more info, I'll be happy to get it for you. Thanks. |

hi guys just got around the problem for installing ut 2004 on suse 9.1 (I have the cd version) if you log in as root and than create a symbolic link to you cd/dvd drive by right clicking your desktop and choosing create new device ,create new cdrom and than choose the device tab scrool to /device /cdrom or dvdrom than click ok anew icon will appear on your desktop. while running the setup for ut when you are prompted to insert the next disk just press the cdrom eject button put the next cdrom in and than use your new icon to mount the cd rom by right clicking and selecting the mount tab you might be prompted that the cd was mounted with read only settings click ok .than at the ut prompt for next disk click next cd should now load right away B) this was how I got the cds to execute properly for me hope this helps
