So I went to the netpanzer site and downloaded the .rpm files for netpanzer. Installed them with Yast (in the usr/bin directory, apparently). Now how do I get the stupid thing to start? It shows up in my desktop menu under applications, but when I click on it I get a "busy" icon for about 30 seconds and then...nothing. I never leave the desktop (no dark screen while it calculates, which the readme file mentioned).

I've given up on trying to download and use .tar, .tar.gz, or .run files for a while. But now I can't even get the stupid RPM files to do what I want.

try to run it from command line. Maybe you are missing a library. Just open a Console and type: netpanzer.

Post any output you get

When I type "netpanzer" from the Konsole, I get this error message: netpanzer: error while loading shared libraries: libphysfs-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

There we go, you need to install libphysfs.

Either get it from here: http://rpmseek.com/rpm-dl/physfs-1.0.0-1.i...0:0:0:0:1176437 or compile it yourself

So I downloaded that libphysfs file and netpanzer works. Thanks.

Well, it works aside from the lobby_server having moved. But, undeterred, I found the new lobby server and got a message saying that I need to register first.

Do I register in-game, or do I need to register on quakenet? The latter, I assume.

Quakenet, but are you sure you have to register? Doesn't it work without registering?

It doesn't seem to. I go into the multiplayer screen, where you can change your player name, there's a box for an IP address and the big box where (I assume) the list of servers is supposed to appear. It stays blank, but if I click on refresh, eventually it gives a "error: register first" message.

Am I just too impatient? Should I just wait for something to happen?

I didn't play netpanzer for a long time, but maybe there are just no servers open?
